Winter is for gardening

Winter is one of my favorite times for gardening. We are fortunate to have mild winters where the ground does not typically freeze solid. Newly planted plants are taken care of by Mother Nature and get to focus on their roots and getting used to their new home before the pressure of the heat of summer and producing seed.

It is also a fabulous time to realize what you are lacking in your garden. Just today in one small border I counted 8 shrubs in bloom. I think I may have a better winter flower show than any other time of year or at least balanced with the other seasons.
